For fun

I drew and inked this one pretty quick, it was for a friend's kid who is obsessed with Predator and wanted a drawing of him to color. Obviously when drawing for a five year old you can't draw the violent stuff so this is a peaceful Crayola friendly Predator. I used a lot of different versions of the Predator from many different sources to come up with this sort of generic one. I wanted to post this one because in my Predator research I came across a bunch of my old comics from junior high, when I was obsessed with Dark Horse Comics. The Predator and Terminator comics were probably in my top five reasons of wanting to become an artist as a kid and finding them brought back a lot of memories of comic book store trips with my friends to spend my hard earned paper route money on these gems.
**Legal butt covering-I didn't do this drawing for money, I don't own the rights to the Predator, his likeness or anything else. This is just fan art for fun.

Something new...

I've been experimenting more with digital painting, this time I attempted it with an inked drawing. This one was done completely in photoshop, painter was misbehaving so I put it in time out. I'm still not satisfied with it, but it is closer to the direction I was trying to get with my cartoons digitally.

It's late...

Don't ask, I have no clue what the point of this one is. I was just up late and bored...

Ruminations, Adulations, and Experimentation

I drew this one and painted it all in painter x.  No to tracing and sampling color, but yes to using a photo for reference.

Thought I would post this quick sketch book sketch of my dogs in some crazy costumes and an attempt in painter to quick study paint my wife.  Man, nothing beats California sunsets on the coast!
In conclusion, I'm a nerd for posting a blog on friday night.  I must be getting old...

Quick Digital Abominable Snowman Painting

I was monkeying around with photoshop the other day because I haven't painted in it in a long time.  This is just a quick painting, about an hour and a half from initial concept to this, messing with different brushes and experimenting with different looks.  I couldn't decide if I like the blue snowy layer or not so I'm posting both.  I think I might get some reference and paint this in acrylic or oil as a finished piece for my portfolio...

Sketchbook

The first one is a spartan taking on a hydra, I started it on the plane ride home but never finished it...hopefully later.  This one below is a copy of an Alberto Vargas, I was just experimenting with watercolors in my sketchbook to see how bad it would come out.

The one above is Grace Cathedral, I finally have a finished drawing of it!  I ran out of time the first time I went.  This one below was inspired by my trip to French Polynesia last January, such a beautiful place, it really gets in your blood (and if you're not careful, Dengue Fever too!!).
